Hello all!
I am Sophie Youngs. Pictured is my wonderful little family: Travis, Iris (smaller), Gage, and me! I am really excited to start this class. I am getting my masters in Digital Learning, New Literacies and Learning. I am currently teaching at Western Greenbrier Middle School as a computer technology/math integration/yearbook teacher. This is a new position in the county and I am creating the curriculum as I go, so this class could be beneficial!
I am one of the few teachers that are using the new emails that the board has provided for every single student. Every single assignment is turned in online using the OneDrive app. I use the same tool to provide them with all the directions and examples of the projects that they are to complete. This part of my class makes me feel like I'm teaching an online class and makes it very convenient for me and my students.
I graduated from FSU in Dec. 2010 with elementary education and middle school math degrees. I was married in 2011 to my wonderful husband Travis. We moved to our current location (close to Lewisburg, WV) at the end of June after my husband graduated from pharmacy school in May. (So proud of him!)
I love my current job, but unfortunately, the new principal doesn't have the same view for the school as the old one did, so my position will no longer exist at the end of this year. Don't worry, I already have a new job lined up to be an 8th grade math teacher at the other end of the county! I will be teaching with one of my best friends! I met her at FSU as an undergrad student.
This semester is going to be a busy one. My husband and I are trying for a fall baby, I am taking four graduate classes, and I am teaching full time with a full class load (5 classes, 3 grade levels, 1 planning period, and 1 ISS duty).
I am ready to hit the ground running and I look forward to learning everything I can! I can't wait to meet all of you, and maybe learn a little more about some of you! I'm glad to be re-joining some of you for another class!

Your life sounds crazy! Especially this semester! I've been using OneDrive with my students, too. We just got started with it this semester. It took us THAT LONG to get the student email addresses, passwords, etc, worked out. I love the program, but have struggled with the wireless here at the school (I use a mobile lab). So, I guess if I have questions about the apps and tools on there, I'll ask you! What school were you at in McDowell County? Were you in Welch? If you had a lot of technology, I'm guessing that's where you were.
I would love to help you out any way I can with OneDrive and other tools on Office 365! I think it is an awesome asset for the tech-savvy teacher!
I was at Sandy River Middle School in Avondale. They had two computer labs, 3-4 mobile labs, three iPad carts, a couple iPod carts, a kindle cart, smartboards in every classroom, teacher laptops and iPads...SRMS tended to be the more outgoing and pilot school. SRMS wrote grants, so many grants, to get all the technology they have.
However, until the new Internet went through, all that technology was almost useless because the bandwidth was terrible.
Welcome! I'm looking forward to sharing and learning more about students using OneDrive.
