My name is Jared
St. Martin Brown. I was born
in West Virginia and have lived here all my life except for eight years in
which I lived in different places throughout Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona
working for the USAF. Although I loved much about my life in
Phoenix, AZ, I knew that, for me, West Virginia was the right place to raise
children. I wanted my kids to be barefoot in the country, climbing trees,
and “catchin’ crawdads in the crick.” So, after those adventurous years
in the Southwest, I moved back to Appalachia in hopes of becoming a school
teacher and starting a family. I met Albani my first day back in WV and we
were married ten months later. Her last name was St. Martin and my
last name was Brown. So that is how I
acquired the extra long last name. This
is our eleventh year together and we now have three children.
This is my seventh year of teaching English and Theatre at the
high school in my neighborhood. Without
a doubt, it is the best job I have ever had.
Even after all of these years, it still feels new. Perhaps that is because so many things change
from year to year.
This is the last class I have to take before earning my M.Ed. in
Digital Media, New Literacies, and Learning.
I switch to this focus about a year ago when I realized that all of my
favorite classes had to do with digital media.
It was in those classes that I was learning the most; the content seemed
new to me, and right for learning about the kind of teaching that I wanted to
do.

Hello Jared!
I think we may have had a class together in the past. If you are the fellow I'm thinking of then I am very excited to hear your unique perspective about what we learn. If you are not, then I am still very excited!
I am interested to learn about how you came around to accepting your last name. I know when I got married, I didn't want to change mine and my husband didn't understand why. It took him a long time to come to terms with the fact that I didn't want to change my name. And here you are, changing yours! Well Done!
I look forward to learning with/from you this semester!
Welcome! Looking forward to collaborating, and I'm happy that you are so close to your degree!
